What's all the fuss about?

With all hype and fuss I’ve been hearing over the last few days and all the records the film has broken, I was expecting a master piece that would ‘Rock’ my world and as nearly every other Marvel release, would leave me wanting more. I'm actually wondering if I’ve seen the same film as everyone else!

Instead I came out of the cinema thinking, what was that….have I just watched the same film as everyone else who gave all these rave reviews.

The film was certainly not what I expected and to be perfectly honest… about half an hour in to the film, I actually felt like getting up and walking out as I was bored to tears!

A total surprise as I have never felt like this with a Marvel film… mind you I think if I had gone to see THOR’s RAGNAROK, I think I would definitely have walked out of that one.

What a load of rubbish and definitely NOT the THOR I wanted to see!

Anyway, back to Black Panther.

I was so, so… SO… looking forward to finally seeing Black Panther on the screen after his introduction in to Captain America’s Civil War… I couldn’t have been more excited as again I used to collect and read the comics back in the day.

Instead I saw a film that opened up with a boring scene that was too dark and gloomy to see anything and the dialogue was awful and too quiet and muffled to understand and this is the scene that is supposed to grab your attention and make you want to see more.

Check out the Trailer below

Then we were introduced to the supposedly amazing Wakanda, which to me was VERY disappointing!

Where was the awe and wonderment that we got when we first saw Asgard, THOR’s home world.

In the comics, Wakanda is literally a fortified city behind walls that if someone comes too near huge guns pop up out of ordinary looking dwellings and magnificent stone panthers adorn the walls! Instead we basically get a Blade Runner type city with African traits!

The City is hidden, so where’s the monuments to Black Panther, yes we see a huge Panther in the rock face along with a huge Gorilla for the Jabari tribe, bur seriously where’s the magnificence, magical and out of this world feeling of this secret city?

Wakanda comic art

And talking of ‘Magical’, where exactly was all the references to Black Panthers? In the comics the character is nearly always shown as been accompanied by a pair of Panthers, especially when in the throne room and where exactly was the King of Wakanda’s throne… surely not the little chair he sat on with the other characters from the different tribes around him!

So, so… SO disappointing! Well for me anyway! Obviously not for everyone else that’s seen the film and gone ‘Ga Ga’ over it.

There’s also another scene that I found difficult to watch and that was when Black Panther goes to find his old flame, who’s a Wakandan Spy, who is working undercover rescuing women who have been taken as slaves, again… couldn’t see a thing, way too dark.

Funny how the major complaint of the DC films is that they are too dark and yet this one is completely dark in many scenes!

Black Panther Guard

The only saving grace for me in the whole film is the female characters that live to protect the Black Panther, they were AMAZING and completely stole the film for me. Fantastic actors and wonderful characters in every way.

Don’t get me wrong Chadwick Boseman is superb as the King himself, but have to say was over shadowed by the brilliant female leads.

The character of Killmonger was OK, nothing special for me, but again, everyone seems to be going ‘overboard’ about how Michael B. Jordan plays the villain of the show. Personally I’d have preferred to see more airtime given to Andy Serkis and his portrayal of the arms dealer Ulysses Klaue, who sadly we won’t be seeing any more!

I will say though, great costume!!!!!

I want to see more of the character, Black Panther, but I want to see him as the character from the comics and all his surroundings!

In my humble opinion and yes I know i’m in minority, but I found the film boring and couldn’t wait to get home to a comfy chair… something I never thought I would hear myself saying about a Marvel film!
