Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 - News

Marvel has unveiled the official Season 4 synopsis for S.H.I.E.L.D, which teases the introduction of Robbie Reyes a.k.a. Ghost Rider.

After many whispers and rumours, including a superb tram that was plastered with a S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and a flamed chain, Marvel has confirmed that the Ghost Rider will be coming to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is to be played by the actor Gabriel Luna.

On first hearing the news I thought, Great! However it's now been confirmed that the Ghost Rider that'll be featured will not be the version that every comic book fan past or present is familiar with, Johnny Blaze, but the lesser known Robbie Reyes.

Check out Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 synopsis:

In light of the Sokovia Accords, and with Hydra obliterated, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been legitimized again and no longer needs to operate in the shadows. Since the world presumes that Coulson is dead, the organization needed a new Director to be the face of the organization. Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack, and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of Enhanced people, aka Inhumans. They have been trying to track down and capture Daisy, aka Quake, who has gone rogue in an attempt to atone for sins from the past. But with the world believing that Daisy is a dangerous outlaw who has taken down banks and bridges, the new Director has no qualms about taking her down for good. Agent May is tasked with training specialist strike teams, and Fitz and Simmons have taken a big step forward in their relationship. But with Simmons’ new promotion as Special Advisor to the Director in Science and Technology, Fitz, as well as her former team members, finds it hard to confide in or trust her since she’s now the Director’s confidant.
Robbie Reyes will roar into the lives of Agent Coulson and the team as a junkyard mechanic who can turn on a dime as the terrifying Ghost Rider. Will Robbie be a friend or foe to S.H.I.E.L.D. - as well as the world, itself? Meanwhile, Fitz discovers that socially awkward genius and friend Dr. Radcliffe has started putting the finishing touches on a new, secret invention.

So there's a slight connection with Captain America: Civil War with the mention of the Sokovia Accords and also Marvel Comics’ Life-Model Decoys better known as the LMD's. The season 4 synopsis doesn’t really offer too many specific details, but it certainly hints at what’s to come and where viewers will find the S.H.I.E.L.D. characters when the series returns later this year.

Back to the Ghost Rider ...

I'm so tired of both Marvel and DC completely messing up these classic characters, a few weeks ago it was DC who released a terrible picture of their new Superman for Supergirl and now Marvel is doing the exact same thing with the Ghost Rider. Why can't they just use the version that we all know, no, instead we have to be introduced to a cheap rip off of the Ghost Rider that has obviously been created to please a younger generation!

Instead of the classic demonic leather clad character sitting astride a hell fire encased motor cycle wielding chains, we get a guy wearing a motor cycle helmet driving a hot rod car. OK, he may well be shown in flames and hopefully the helmet will morph into a skull ... but I'm betting it'll be tamed down from the Johnny Blaze version. Why oh why do we have to have a lame excuse for one of the best Marvel Characters ever to grace the pages of a comic.

I am certainly no big fan of the two Ghost Rider films, but I will say that I think the Ghost Rider shown on screen was pretty darn good ... he actually looked like something to be feared, especially in the follow up 'Spirit of Vengeance', but hey, it's only my opinion!

Hopefully I'll be proven wrong and this newer version of the Ghost Rider will come off OK, but I really don't think so. I'm still hanging on in there watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but for how long I'm not sure, nearly every character they've introduced that has some connection with a classic Marvel character has been constructed and portrayed so badly it's ridiculous, just take look at Deathlok!

Is it really that difficult for costume designers on these shows to get a character to look like their source material?
