Kind'a wish I'd payed to go and see it at the cinema!

Well I gotta say, after listening to what everyone else has to say about this film I was not looking forward to watching this and as such I waited for it to come on to streaming. I finally got to see it the other day and I have too say, kind'a wish I'd payed to go and see it at the cinema as I kind'a enjoyed it!

The film is definitely no Steve Rogers, Captain America film but if the comparisons between Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson could be overlooked... which I know that'll never happen, purely as a Sam Wilson film I actually really enjoyed it.

If Marvel hadn't done the whole Sam Wilson takes over the Captain America mantle but instead this movie had been a stand alone Sam Wilson, The Falcon Movie, then I'm sure this would have been handled and looked at as completely different entity.

Considering the whole Sam Wilson as Captain America never really worked in the comics then I'll never understand why on earth Marvel wanted to do the switch on film too, but then again Marvel seems to make so many mistakes by not listening to fans or indeed looking back on their own success and failures. I mean let's face it how many companies or organisations actually have an arm of their organisations that if you look at it is a major way of finding out what works and what doesn't! ie their comics and what sells and what doesn't... and unfortunately Sam Wilson as Captain America did NOT!

I always thought Anthony Mackie as The Falcon was superb and completely owned the character...  but taking on the Captain America name!

I'm sorry but taking over from Chris Evens was always going to be a slight impossibility no matter who Marvel picked to fill those shoes... In my eyes, Chris Evens IS and ALWAYS will be Steve Rogers.... END OF STORY.

The way I see it is that Marvel has put the onus on an actor who is just not right for the role. As I just said before, Anthony Mackie was 100% perfect for the role of The Falcon, a supporting character to Steve Rogers. A character that was specifically written to work as a partner to Captain America and Anthony Mackie excelled at playing that part. But because he was playing a 'supporting' character role to Captain America, then that is who the character, Sam Wilson will always be seen as.

It's not the actors fault and has nothing to do with Anthony Mackie's acting talents. Surely we can all agree, he's a great actor and is extremely charismatic but because he was The Falcon, he just doesn't work as Cap. He's more or less acting out the real life problems of taking on the most important role or mantel of Captain America in actual real life.

I personally think that's why the Sam Wilson arc didn't work in the comics either, because the character will always be seen as The Falcon and Marvel should have seen this coming but rather than stop all the backlash early on and what I think will be the ultimate failure of Sam Wilson as Captain America in the MCU because it's happened before Marvel are letting the actor take the fall instead as it was never going to work.

In many ways I can honestly say that the film is more or less a Falcon film rather than a Captain America film down to all the flying and arial battles and without Sam having the super solder serum without his wings and Vibranium 'super suit' he's basically nothing! The one time in the film he needs to do something 'superheroish' to chase someone who has jumped out of a window, he has to go down the stairs.... NOT VERY Superheroish is it!

If that had been Steve Rogers he would have just jumped out the window and carried on the chase... what's going to happen if like in 'Captain America The Winter Soldier' when Sam has his wings torn off by The winter Solder and he informs Cap he's out the game because he can't fly... is that what'll happen in something like an Avengers film. Sam will say to everyone, "sorry guys... Captain America is out of the battle because my wings are broken".... what else can he do other than throw a normal human punch! Not much good when up against Ultron, Thanos or indeed Dr Doom!

Again, this is why this character arc never worked in the comics, he's too underpowered to carry the mantle of Captain America.

Yes, I suppose you could say the story is a bit thin on the ground and a bit predictable, but I found it enjoyable to loose myself in the world of superheros for a couple of hours. I wasn't on the edge of my seat like some of the Marvel films of past.

Have to say enjoyed the guy playing Joaquin Torres the new Falcon. Thought he was a good addition to the Marvel characters and a good continuation from "The Falcon and The Winter Solder" story arc. So glad that Carl Lumbly was back as Isaiah Bradley, think he's a superb actor and a great choice for playing Isaiah Bradley, again carrying on from "The Falcon and The Winter Solder". I really hope that Marvel brings him back again somewhere and includes him in some of the action!

Wasn't too impressed with the former Black Widow character and I have to admit wasn't that impressed with Harrison Ford's Thaddeus Ross characterisation. Think that was a complete 'miss cast'. Ford was OK, just nothing special.

Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder was pretty Meh.... shame as I really like Giancarlo Esposito as an actor... maybe he'll make another appearance sometime in the future!

Dr. Samuel Sterns, portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson was pretty strange... really don't understand why Marvel decided to go all out with the exposed brain thing when they could've just toned the character down like they did with Giancarlo Esposito's, Sidewinder character.

Finally we have the appearance of the Red Hulk! All five minutes of him! He was OK, I think more could be said how Sam Wilson tackled him as Captain America... again, pretty Meh!

To be honest 'Meh' kind of sums up how I felt about the wholemovie... it was just OK, but I enjoyed watching it and found it interesting that Marvel used the film to tie up some loose ends like the appearance of a massive hand and head of Tiamut in the India Ocean that no one has made reference to since it appeared at the end of Eternals. But as I've said, I really wish I had seen it in the cinema. Even watched it a further two or three times since.

In my opinion there are some good bits, like the flight sequences of Cap and Falcon. Very reminiscent of 'Top Gun'! Loved the interactions between Sam and the new Falcon, think they bounce off each other pretty well and make for a good team just like I enjoyed watching Sam Wilson with Bucky in the Disney+ "The Falcon and The Winter Solder" TV series and THAT is exactly what I think this should have been. A FALCON Movie, NOT a Captain America Movie.

But hey, this is just my own personal opinion!
